Miracles in Motion
The Shorkey Center has formed a partnership with the Mariposa School of Dance to provide a dance program for children with disabilities in Beaumont, TX. Miracles in Motion classes are instructed by Mrs. Mallory Rugg; a licensed physical therapy assistant that has also trained in dance for two decades. All students have the opportunity to perform in the annual spring recital, and may also choose additional performance opportunities as part of the Mariposa Monarchs competitive Dance Team.
We believe all children should have access to dance to use their bodies in healthy and expressive ways. The benefits of dance for the mind and body are numerous and include stress relief, increased physical fitness, gross motor skills development, improved confidence and self-esteem, and the encouraged creativity and imagination just to name a few.
